Led by Olivier Award-winning choreographer Botis Seva, the London-based company Far From The Norm (FFTN) makes its Joyce debut with BLKDOG, an emotionally charged Hip-Hop dance performance that reveals the vicious connection between self-discovery and self-destruction. Hyper-physical movement propels audiences through a chilling landscape of the inner psyche.
October 24-26: Nadia Beugré | Quartiers Libres revisited at NYLA
Quartiers libres ("free rein") delves into the hidden spaces we feel trapped in, yet are irresistibly drawn to—places filled with endless possibilities where surrender leads to revelation. Twelve years after its original premiere in France, Nadia Beugré, a powerful and fascinating performer, revisits this iconic solo work, now joined by two emerging artists from the Ivory Coast, breathing new life into the powerful exploration of freedom and constraint.
Now-October 6: Meredith Monk’s Indra’s Net at Park Avenue Armory
Living legend Meredith Monk returns to the Armory with her latest creation, an immersive work that is part performance, part installation, inspired by Indra’s Net, a parable that illustrates life’s interconnectedness. In the ancient Buddhist/Hindu legend, an enlightened king, Indra, stretches a large net across the universe with an infinitely faceted jewel placed at each intersection. Each jewel is unique yet reflects all the others, illuminating the interdependence of all living things. Monk, together with members of her extraordinary Vocal Ensemble, a sixteen-piece chamber orchestra, and an additional eight-member chorus, offers an interplay of music, movement, and architecture to embody celestial, earthly, and human realms through sound, video, and performance.
October 23-24: Woolgathering | Composed by Oliver Tompkins Ray, Choreography by John Heginbotham, Feat. Patti Smith at Baryshnikov Arts Center
Baryshnikov Arts Center presents the world premiere of Woolgathering, a spoken word opera directed and composed by Oliver Tompkins Ray, based on Patti Smith’s book of the same name. Ray, a longtime collaborator of Smith, teams up with choreographer John Heginbotham to bring to life a dance and music-infused meditation on memory, childhood, and imagination. The performance will feature Patti Smith’s evocative words alongside live music and dancers Gerald Casel and Mykel Marai Nairne from Dance Heginbotham, adding a rich choreographic layer.
October 18-19: ANOHNI and The Johnsons: It’s Time To Feel What’s Really Happening at BAM (Next Wave)
One of the most treasured artists of our generation, ANOHNI traverses eco-feminist themes, their musical journey spanning many genres—from electronic experimental to avant-classical, dance, and soul. For the first time in a decade, ANOHNI presents a series of concerts with The Johnsons. Responding to a time of upheaval, she issues a challenge: “It’s Time to Feel What’s Really Happening.” On
October 6: Set Pieces | Sophia Brous & Kit Downes at Lincoln Center, David Rubenstein Atrium
Set Pieces is a new project exploring the evocative interplay between words and music. It features interdisciplinary performer, vocalist, and composer Sophia Brous (EXO-TECH, The Invisible Opera) in collaboration with pianist and organist Kit Downes. The project draws on a deep alchemical dialogue between the two musicians, where a gradually evolving song cycle is created in real-time, using a libretto created especially for each performance, highlighting the work of a particular twentieth-century modernist poet. In Set Pieces, the duo create show-specific compositional cycles, working in collaboration with text dramaturg, author and Yale University Press senior editor Jessie Kindig.

You already knew we would be all over this. André 3000 brings his shimmering New Blue Sun to BAM for an enchanting and reflective sonic odyssey. After 17 years, André 3000’s hiatus from full-length recording came to a glorious and merciful end when the Atlanta-based musician—best known as one half of southern rap duo Outkast—released a remarkably unexpected solo record: an ethereal tapestry of spiritual jazz and transcendental flute music. Now sharing both nights is Brooklynite multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer Meshell Ndegeocello.
October 5-6: Wayne McGregor at Kaatsbaan
Take a glorious day trip to Kaatsbaan in Tivoli, NY, to witness Company Wayne McGregor as they close out the Annual Festival with their groundbreaking work Autobiography. Renowned choreographer Wayne McGregor delves into the concept of “body as archive,” using his genetic code as the foundation for this unique 70-minute performance. Performed by nine classically trained dancers, the piece blends artificial intelligence with instinct to create a series of dance portraits shaped by McGregor’s DNA, all set to an original score by electronic musician Jlin.
